FAQ
Methodology and didactics
For which age group was the learning app developed?
Currently, TukToro is specifically designed for children aged 4 to 8 years. We are working on covering the entire pre-school and elementary school period in the future.
What methodological and didactic concept is behind the learning game?
Starting from the idea of using dice images as a representation of quantities and thus also as to use mental representatives for numbers to learn arithmetic, we have developed a completely new learning method for TukToro, the dice box method. We have expanded the familiar dice images for the numbers 1-6 to the number range 0-10, keeping the "old" ones and developing completely new dice images for 0, 7, 8, 9 and 10. This allows children to work out quantities mentally and develop individual, numerical thoughts through haptic, visual and auditory learning with the dice box. All mental processes that are needed for calculation are integrated into the adventures of TukToro and implemented as game sequences.
TukToro thus creates a language that every child can understand in order to learn the first Not only to carry out calculation processes, but also to understand and be able to say "Why do you solve a certain problem the way you do?". This makes TukToro a universal tool for home, school and tutoring.
How to play with the app?
TukToro's Adventures are an interconnected learning story that helps children acquire fundamental skills for math classes in elementary school.
Along the way, children encounter tasks like "matching dice images," which is suitable even for preschoolers and helps develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and an understanding of quantities.
Preschoolers enthusiastically stack the "Dwarves." A favorite game among older children (and even adults, by the way) is the "Chicken Game," which offers both single-player and multiplayer modes.
Which number range or which competences are worked out and consolidated with TukToro?
With TukToro, students work with numbers up to 20 and, with some perspective, up to 100, practicing various types of arithmetic operations. Specific calculation strategies are also taught to improve students' understanding and skills in mathematics. This is particularly evident in the chicken game, which requires students to think several steps ahead and trains their memory skills.
Are there many language requirements/explanations for the app that the children have to understand (in relation to children with German as a second language, lack of language skills,..)?
The app is designed for an intuitive and visual way of learning, minimizing language requirements. The children usually do not have to follow complicated language requirements or instructions as the tasks and games are illustrated with pictures and symbols. However, some tasks and games may require simple language explanations, which are usually easy to understand.
After appropriate introduction and explanation, is it possible for the children to work and practice independently?
Yes, the app is designed intuitively and allows children to work and practice independently after a brief introduction. You can find additional tutorial and help videos on our YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/@TukToro/videos.
Studies show: This is why early numeracy learning is so important
The importance of early mathematical support is well documented scientifically: Many studies indicate that mathematical skills at pre-school age are strongly linked to later success at school. Children who develop an understanding of numbers, quantities, and simple arithmetic operations at an early age have better chances in mathematics and other school subjects in the long term.
Studies such as “What Is the Long-Run Impact of Learning Mathematics During Preschool?” (Watts et al.) or “Early Math Matters” (Jordan et al.) show that early mathematical skills remain intact and also have a significant influence on later learning. Longitudinal analyses (e.g. Lerkkanen et al., Claessens et al., Wasik & Byrnes) also show that children who build up a solid understanding of numbers in preschool benefit well into elementary school.

TukToro Products
How do I set up TukToro?
The enclosed quick guide explains the simple setup step by step.
Is the educational game safe for my child?
Yes, the educational game is safe for your child. When developing the app, we placed the highest value on security and data protection. The app is free of ads. In addition, all content has been reviewed and approved by educators and experts in the field of early childhood education. If you have any other questions about the security of the app, please feel free to contact us.
Why is the combination of haptics and digital so valuable for my child?
By grasping and moving physical objects, it can grasp the connections better and learning is correspondingly better consolidated. The digital component in turn offers the advantage that the child is motivated in a playful way and experiences an interactive experience. It also allows them to quickly and easily get feedback on their progress and is supported in learning independently and solving problems.
Can my child play TukToro on the go?
It is possible to pre-download the games provided there is sufficient storage space on the device. So your child can learn and play on the go without an internet connection.
Can it be ensured that my child does not leave the TukToro app?
There is an option to enable the so-called "kiosk mode" which prevents the child from leaving the app and accessing other features of the device. This mode is easily selectable on the parent dashboard.
My child doesn't understand a level, what can I do?
TukToro acts as a tutor and offers help to the children if they don't understand a level. Children of this age are still in the middle of their development, it is quite normal for children to progress at different speeds. TukToro shows different strategies that can help the children to solve the tasks. If your child is struggling to understand a level, they can try different options provided by the game to improve their problem-solving skills. TukToro does not put the child under pressure, but offers support.
How do I save the game?
Currently, game scores are not automatically saved when the game is closed. We are working on making game scores optional so that your child can continue playing where they left off the next time they open the game.
Can I customize screen time for my child?
Yes, screen time for the game can be set individually by the parent or guardian. There is a function within the app for this that allows you to limit the playing time for each day.

How long does a game session last?
A game session usually lasts between 10 and 20 minutes, but can vary depending on the game mode and level of difficulty.
Why is the approach better than things that have been done in the past.
TukToro not only replaces traditional worksheets, but offers an interactive learning experience specially designed for children to learn and improve math skills in a fun way. In contrast to conventional learning, in which children often have to listen passively, TukToro enables active and independent learning. Through the combination of haptic elements and digital technologies, different senses are addressed and thus the cognitive development of the child is promoted. TukToro is also customizable to suit the child's needs and abilities, allowing them to learn at their own pace.
Can several children study with TukToro at the same time?
Yes, multiple children can learn with TukToro at the same time. In the future, the app will offer the option to create multiple user profiles so that each child can track their own progress and receive learning content tailored to their individual needs. But siblings and friends can already play together and learn from each other. We tested TukToro in schools and saw firsthand how students supported each other in solving the tasks.

Technical questions
Which devices is the TukToro app compatible with?
The TukToro app is available on popular iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. It is optimized for mobile devices but also works as a Mac version. There are plans to make the games available on Amazon Fire tablets and as Windows versions as well. The current system requirements are as follows: iOS devices with iOS 13 or later are supported, and Android devices with Android 12 or later are supported.
How does TukToro work?
TukToro works with the help of innovative sensors in the dice cup, which allow the dice to be detected and transmitted wirelessly to the device via Bluetooth.
Is an internet connection required?
Yes, but games can also be played in offline mode.
Can any commercially available dice be used?
No. Due to our methodological approach, playing with TukToro only works with our educational dice featuring dice patterns from 0 to 5. More details can be found in the section on the methodological-didactic concept.
The TukToro figure comes with eight dice: at most, four are needed for play at a time. The other four are included as spares. If any are lost, replacement dice can be ordered separately.
How is the device charged?
TukToro is charged inductively, which is already common with many smartphones. As a result, children do not have to fiddle with sockets.
How can I learn about my child's learning progress?
Our team is currently developing additional statistics as a premium feature. Your child's progress is then automatically being tracked in the app and can be accessed via a separate parent dashboard. This allows for an overview of your child's learning activities and to identify progress and weaknesses and react accordingly in a supportive and motivating manner.
TukToro isn't charging or responding: What can I do?
Don't worry, this can happen in rare cases and is usually easy to fix. TukToro is charged inductively: wireless, safe, and easy.
To ensure everything runs smoothly, first watch our video "How to set up TukToro" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMxn-MLWS_M and please note the following instructions:
Patience while charging
If TukToro is completely empty, it will need some time on the charging pad before it will give a signal again. Please leave it on the charging pad for at least 20–30 minutes. If you take it off the dock too soon, you may not get any feedback.
TukToro is fully charged?
When the battery is at 100%, TukToro automatically shuts down to save energy. When removed from the charging pad, it will not emit a signal. A quick shake will reactivate it and connect it to the app.
Check power supply
Please use a high-quality power adapter with at least approximately 12 watts of output power. Cheap chargers often provide too little power, which can lead to charging problems in some cases.
TukToro doesn’t respond immediately?
If TukToro is placed on and removed from the charging pad very quickly, it may not provide any feedback. Even if it's currently connected to a tablet or smartphone via Bluetooth, it will only vibrate while charging, and the light will remain off.
